My name is Michael Pallamary. I am 44 years old and I live in San Diego, California, USA. My father left my family when I was very young and only recently did I learn I am probably of Greek nationality.
According to a document I recently located, after my family came to the United States, the remaining family members were reportedly "wiped out." I believe this may have been a reference to the massacre at Smyrna in 1922.
Since then I have located evidence of the Pallamari family in Izmir. Because of the similarity in names, I think these people may be members of my family. Because of my lack of knowledge about the Greek and Turkish cultures, I am sensitive about researching this subject. What I have learned is that the Greeks and Turks do not seem to enjoy a great relationship and accordingly I am sensitive to the manner in which I conduct this inquiry. I also have learned that my family may have originated from the island of Tinos.
If there is anyone who can help me with this matter, I would be greatly appreciative. Also one of my most pressing questions involves the conversion of the "i" ending in Pallamari to a "y" ending in Pallamary. What makes this a curious question is the fact that I have located a copy of a report published by a Constantinople printer named J. Pallamary in 1883. This is all very confusing and very important to me.
I also learned my grandfather came to the United States in 1907 through Boston, Massachusetts. Again without boring the reader of this e-mail, if you cannot help me can you please forward this communication to the proper party? I would conclude by adding that I have two sons and I am most anxious to acquaint them with their heritage and nationality. For me, this whole subject has sadly been a void in my life.

Translation? Can anyone tell me something about the words on this plate?
This is another plate that my old Grandma brought back from Greece in the late 1950's. The plate is black with tourqouise and muted orange paint.
